Megan O’Neil, World Institute on Disability, challenges people with disabilities and others working to help people rise out of poverty to not only vote, but also to learn what candidates think about the programs that affect their daily existence.
2006 Assets Learning Conference Review: An Unprecedented Level of Inclusion
People with disabilities and numerous allies confirmed their interest and support of asset building programs at the largest asset building conference to date. The event was held in Phoenix, AZ September 19-21, 2006. Nearly fifty people from different disability organizations, governmental agencies, affiliated non-profit organizations and credit unions united with over 1,000 attendees to make this conference the most inclusive asset building convening ever.

Ensuring Equal Access for All
In 1965, President Johnson attempted to persuade Congress to pass his Voting Rights Act (the Civil Rights Act had been passed the previous year). This proposed legislation removed the right of states to impose restrictions on who could vote in elections. Johnson stated: "Every American citizen must have an equal right to vote."
