Designed to educate medical providers, families and individuals with disabilities about health care access and disability sensitivity, this 25-minute film empowers providers, patients and families to achieve accessible, appropriate care in compliance with U.S. disability law. Through interviews with disabled individuals, physicians, nurses, dentists, parents and advocates, the film introduces a range of issues essential to provision of quality health care. Issues discussed include respectful doctor-patient interaction, accessible facilities and equipment, appropriate accommodations, sexual and reproductive health care, dentistry and ancillary services, serving disabled children and addressing parents’ needs.

The training curriculum text (see related items below) offers case-based learning exercises and extensive in-depth reference materials. Providers will learn about appropriate provision of care, specific skills to increase good communication and rapport, and compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act. The curriculum emphasizes access and communication as the fundamental components in addressing health care disparities for people with disabilities.
