4:00 PM - 5:50 PM - Parallel Session - Moving Toward Sustained Accessibility and Inclusion in Media and Branding

Despite growing awareness and several examples of success, authentic representations of disability and accessible content in media and marketing remain largely absent from the mainstream. This is in sharp contrast to the needs and expectations of consumers with disabilities, who remain underserved and underrepresented in the way major brands advertise, produce digital content, and create media products. This session will provide an overview of the economic, legal, and rights-based imperatives that make the case for why brands and agencies must take greater strides to embed and mainstream disability inclusion and accessibility in their marketing and media efforts. It will also highlight best practices and resources brands can adopt to improve their performance now, as well as a path toward sustaining and scaling their efforts in the future.

8:00 AM - 3:00 PM - An IAAP Workshop - Disability-Inclusive Readiness & Risk Reduction in Crises and Threats

  • 7:30 am – 8:00 am: Check-In
  • 8:00 am – 3:00 pm: Workshop

Join the World Institute on Disabilities subject matter experts for a full-day workshop that promises to be a valuable investment of your time. The workshop will focus on case studies on how disasters and crises of all types and sizes disproportinately impact people with disabilities. Presenters will highlight how organizations can proactively address good practices around emergency response, public health, and other support systems in inherently and systemically inaccessible disasters, contributing to this disparity.

As a participant, you will learn about incorporating accessible technology and principles of inclusion and leveraging the expertise of disability-led organizations (DLOs) to support crafting company-wide effective emergency preparedness and resilience policies and practices. Presenters will highlight policies and practices essential to preserving the lives and independence of the world’s 1.3 billion people before, during, and after crises and disasters.

Furthermore, presenters will highlight the framework for effective emergency preparedness, emphasizing that effective emergency preparedness goes far beyond creating a kit or hosting a fire drill. The workshop will also explore topics such as:

  • Comprehensive and essential components of disability-inclusive
  • Accessible emergency preparedness
  • Continuity/resumption of operations
  • Workplace and community resilience planning

Experts will also dive into the roles and responsibilities of public, private, and personal actors and provide recommended considerations for integrating, applying, assessing, and improving preparedness and resilience plans.

The workshop is tailored to foster a dynamic learning environment where participants can learn from each other’s experiences and insights.
