Words from the Community Creative Center in Cameroon

Community Creative Center's Ask

Greetings from the Global Alliance for Disaster Resource Acceleration (GADRA),

Despite the difficulties and the devastation of the fire, Armelle has not lost hope and aims to have startup capital for income-generation activities like bringing in educational materials, vocational training tools, assistive devices like wheelchairs, and other resources tailored to the specific needs of the women served at the Center. To resume providing this essential service to the community, and recover from this disaster the Center needs $3,800 USD.

Looking forward, she hopes to establish a permanent location for the Center, no longer renting space, provide advocacy for the respec to rights, provide scholarship programs, offer counseling services, provide assistive technology (AT), and continue to conduct skill development for income-generating activities, facilitate identification, and referrals to health interventions. To build forward from this disaster and create a more resilient future for the community the Community Creative Center needs additional funding.

Following the GADRA Rapid Response Protocol we have begun seeking humanitarian relief resources from corporations and foundations seeking to provide direct assistance to disability-led organizations serving the immediate needs of people with disabilities in their community. Interested supporters are encouraged to visit and click ‘Corporate Funders’ to make a direct connection to DPOs in need.

Experience has shown that in more traditional disaster relief, it rarely reaches local disability-led organizations. GADRA exists to fill this gap for DPOs. Community Creative Center is not looking for charity, they are looking for support to respond to their community now.

If you are a Corporation or Foundation wanting to be sure your humanitarian resources reach local disability led organizations, please let us help you make that connection. Whether you have been active with GADRA, or this is the first that you are hearing about us, we invite you to partner with us to accelerate disaster relief to where and how it's needed most.
